Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tim Marvich on August 3, 2004:

Friends and Family of Dave Bernstein,

While our paths crossed only a few times, I remember Dave fondly. We did a rafting trip down the Upper Colorado that was quite fun when he was an Exchange Cadet at the Air Force Academy. We had both attended the Combat Diver Qualification Course (me in '97) and both loved the water, so we had some common ground. I was very shocked and pretty upset when I read of his passing.

Last weekend, I went down to the pier at Santa Monica, CA for some open-water swimming and came upon an exhibit showing just how many casualties the United States has suffered in Iraq. It was a sizable field of sand filled with orderly rows of monuments, one for each casualty. Anyone interested could label one of the simple wooden monuments with a cherished-one's name and I was happy to see that one monument had already been labeled for Dave. I left a pair of Swedish goggles on his anyway.

Rest assured he will not be forgotten by those who knew him!
