David Bernstein, USMA '01
Posted by Brooke Matherly on October 18, 2004:
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Bernstein-
I first met David on Halloween Night '02 in Vicenza, Italy. We were both at the same party and for the life of me I couldn't figure out David's costume - he explained it to me several times...it was really bad! But for some reason we ended up talking all night. We became close and I am so fortunate to have spent the small amount of time together as we did. I deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom in Febuary 2003, David was the last person I saw the night before I left and last person I spoke to as I approached the C130. For some reason he had this calming affect on me. On many occasions I have wanted to write my thoughts to you. I feel as if they are a year too late. But as this day - his day- draws to an end here in Kuwait I am thinking of David. I just want you both to know I do think of him often and that he has made such an impact on so many people. I will cherish the time we knew each other. I am proud of what he did and what he stood for. And I know I will always be trying to figure out what his costume was!
Godspeed- Brooke Matherly
