Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SSG David Cutler on December 17, 2006:

Dave Bernstein, or "Dick" Bernstein as we called him (long story). I served as a forward observer in Dave's platoon in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. I spent just a little over a year with him and he made a lasting impact on my life. His leadership will always serve as a guide to me. He was the best Platoon Leader I have ever seen. Always motivated, always dedicated.

I loved his sense of humor the most. His sarcastic remarks were always good for a laugh when we needed them most. The last time I saw Dave he made a few jokes about a recent bet I had lost. My shaved eyebrows were an easy target for his quick wit.

On 18 October 2006 I reflected about the time we spent together while I stayed at another random granary in Iraq. I'm here for another tour and he is serving with me once again- this time in heart. I miss you Dave.
