Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Bender on January 23, 2007:

I served with Lt. Bernstein in Iraq and worked for him in headquarters of C. Co. I don't know what made me search his name today three years after he was killed, but I still think of him often. I am now out of the Army and back home, going to school again. Getting more education, Lt. Berstein would have laughed at that, he always said I was the only guy he knew that would be an enlisted man when he could be an officer, and I would always respond that I would rather work for a living. Lt Berstein was always a bright spot in my day though, I drove for him many times and it was always interesting to talk with him about what books we were reading or argue about history and have a more in depth conversation than I could with most of the other guys we were with. I am very sorry for the families loss. I still think of him and Hart and Hebert on a daily basis, they are definitely not forgotton.
