Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Joshua Lewis on August 29, 2009:

John,

My E-1 friend; I was in absolute shock, followed by sadness and tears upon hearing this tragic news. I still can't quite believe you are gone.

I will never forget how you were always willing to help anyone with DDS or Calculus questions, no matter how late in the evening, and despite how early you had to wake up for Water Polo practice.

I'll never forget taking the train to Poughkeepsie to head up to Vassar College as Plebes, and being so embarrassed in uniform that we would always change on the way up. And you are the only guy I have ever met who would voluntarily spend two Spring Breaks at Fort Campbell to qualify for Scuba School.

I miss you so much, dear friend. This country is a far weaker place without you; and those who had not yet met you will never have the opportunity to meet one of the strongest, kindest, supporting men I have ever met.

God bless you and your family. You were willing to sacrifice your life for a cause, when so many of us had moved on from serving our country. You will be forever missed.

Be thou at Peace, old friend.

Josh
