Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Toby Jimenez on August 29, 2009:

Lisa, there are no words I can say to express how horrible I feel about your loss. When I first heard about the loss of John, I felt sick inside. My mind whirled through my memories of John. I first met John in the pre-SCUBA program back in spring of 1999. John and I suffered through that whole program...twice. John and I spent our Cow and Firstie years together in A-2. I watched John excel in aeronautical engineering and water polo. John's big goofy smile and sense of humor made those last two years fly. On graduation day, John sat next to me and was the first to give me a congratulatory hug after we threw our hats in the air. I saw John during IOBC, but we eventually lost track of each other due to the timings of follow on schools and duty stations. I finally saw John again in May 2007 at JRTC. He was part of the O/C team that evaluated my company. He always had great recommendations on how I could be a better company commander. When the rotation was over, John and I talked about how our lives had changed with deployments, marriage, kids, and our plans for the future. He wished me luck in my next deployment. John was a great Soldier and an even better man. He had a positive impact on all who encountered him. He is and always will be sorely missed. John, well done. Be thou at peace.
