Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jeremy Scholtes on September 29, 2009:

Dear Lisa, Jackson, Bryce, and Heidi --

"The ordinary was extraordinary, because I was married to John." Wow! Lisa, that single sentence of yours quoted in the Whittier Daily News captures everything the world needs to know about John. He would be moved to tears I am sure, as I was reading it and thinking about the last time I saw your family in DuPont.

Isaiah 6:8 reads...Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?" "Here I am," I said, "send me!" And John stepped forward...

Just like the Prophet Isaiah, called by God to do great things in this world, so too was John called. He was called to be a wonderful and loving son, brother, husband, and father. He was called to be a great friend to many of us who went to West Point with him and served with him, and he was called to be a fearless Soldier and a courageous leader. And then, he was called home...too early for the rest of us...but at just the right time when God needed him.

Thanks for sharing your man with us, Lisa. He really was extraordinary!

2001 - 'TIL DUTY IS DONE!
