West Point, 2001

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Benjamin Pitts on January 25, 2005:

Joey, as I referred to him, was one of a handful of guys that I consider great friends from West Point. From the time we played Sprint Football together, I looked up to him for his relentless work ethic and unwavering confidence. Although we didn't see each other much following his graduation, we shared stories and laughter regularly over the phone. I had the pleasure of spending Army-Navy Weekend with Joe, Mikey, and Jason just over a month ago and I now really treasure that time. It took Joe's convincing to get me to drive back to Philadelphia after the game to spend another evening with him before his drive back South. That time felt as if we had just walked off of the football field together--a timeless friendship that I guess us grads take for granted sometimes. I am now immensely relieved that I spent that weekend with Joe and regret not spending more time with him over the last few years. I missed his phone call the night he turned his phone off and had to settle for sending him an email. I guess I?ll never know if he received my final email, but I hope he knew how great a friend he was to me. I will never forget the time I spent with Joey and the profound impact that he had and will continue to have on my life. To his family and great friends, my prayers go out to each of you in this difficult time. To Joey, I love you man and thank you for everything you have done for me. Save a seat for me...

In Loving Memory,

Benji
