Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Michelle Millhof on January 26, 2005:

Michael and I didn?t know Joe well, but we knew him well enough to know he was a good man with a good heart. We had the pleasure of meeting him on more than one occasion, and we knew him mostly through his loving girlfriend Jodi Church.

It is written in the bible there is no greater gift than to lay down your life for another. Most of us would lay down our lives for our children, our families, and maybe our friends. But it takes a hero to lay down his life for his fellow countrymen, and for the lives of strangers, in other lands, he?ll never meet. Joe and others like him gave this great gift of sacrifice so that we can continue to live in freedom, and so others may live in freedom, a God given right. I believe for these Heroes their rewards are abundant in heaven.

War is an ugly and horrific thing. It is hell on earth. I believe God so loved Joe, and the goodness in him, He didn?t want Joe to endure a lengthy stay in the darkness and the depths of war. So He took him to a better place. Though Joe, a courageous soldier, would have fought the good fight for as long as he was needed. God needed him more. I believe Joe is still flying, flying with angels in a far more beautiful place. Thank you Joe, for your great gift of sacrifice. We?ll never forget it.
