Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Paul Gass on January 28, 2005:

I was Joe's first company commander. From the time he showed up at the unit, he was one of the hardest working people I'd ever met. Joe put his heart into everything he did... he loved his soldiers and believed in his duty. Everybody was better for having known him. He had the ability to touch all those around him. He was more than a platoon leader to me, he was my friend. He made me a better commander and person. He was a compassionate leader and I can say, without reservation, that he is the best officer I have ever worked with - superior, peer, and subordinate alike.

We can't know why God chose to bring Joe with Him. We can only know that Joe lived his life as an example for others to follow and we all benefited from knowing him. While he will be missed, Joe is no doubt looking over us now.

My prayers and sympathies go out to Joe's family, friends, and loved ones.

Joe will NEVER be forgotten.
