Be Thou At Peace

Posted by TK on January 29, 2005:

Joe was that certain someone who shed the light on an otherwise dark picture. Unfortunately, I did not get to know him real well until we arrived at Fort Rucker. Words don't vindicate the tremendous loss we all feel. I will remember Joe for his sense of humor and his ability to laugh off the tough challenges with relative ease. If there was a red 3000GT parked in front of a friend's house, that was the place to be. I remember playing Playstation with him until the wee hours of the morning. I will remember the hug he gave me at my wedding and how genuine his words of kindness always were. I remember getting a last second call to head down to Panama City with Dan and Matty to see LL Cool J, for no other reason than because it was "LL Cool J"; we went. I will miss Joe dragging me to Rugby practice on an early Saturday morning. I remember him putting on his smile and not giving me an option one way or another. It was always easy to include Joe in your plans or try to include yourself in Joe's plans. Joe made sense of it all, and knew what he wanted out of life. He was the guy you wanted to share a laugh with. He was the first one you wanted to tell your new joke to because you knew he would give you an honest assessment. A party at the Tavern, urging him to head down to Ebro, or calling him to check on his latest adventures in Austin...he always made you smile. The list goes on and on. I know that Joe lived his life to the fullest and died doing what he loved. Rarely do friends make such a lasting impression that you can hear their voice and see their face when you think of them. Joe did that to everyone he knew. He will always be a part of me. Cheers for the great times brother.
