Joe Lusk

West Point, 2001

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Matt Considine on January 29, 2005:

In the humid heat of a West Point summer some years ago I met Joe Lusk. Shortly after, plebe year officially began and we had our first class together. And while I struggled to figure out what the hell a Discrete Dynamical System was, that tanned-face California kid could somehow sleep his way through class and still score better than me on tests. It didn't matter if it was academics, the military, or sports...things just seemed to come easy for Joe. But he never let it go to his head. In fact, he seemed even more humbled by it. He was a fellow runningback for the Sprint Football team and anytime number 9 was on the field he lifted all those around him. After graduation, I was happy to call Joe my roommate at flight school. We were inseparable and did it all....from softball, to rugby, to flag football...there was nothing that could keep us off the playing field. Our times in Panama City, Tallahassee, Atlanta, and the Doug Brown Tavern are some of the best memories of my life. Joe was there in the good times and the bad. He was a friend you could confide in. I'll never forget the New Years in Atlanta where we cried on each others shoulders because of the uncertainty of my brother, Gary, Mikey, and Jason's deployment to Iraq. Likewise, I'll cherish the day that Joe told me that meeting Jodi Church was the best thing that ever happened to him. Joe you'll forever be in my heart and you are eternally a part of my soul. I'll see you again on the playing field, brother.

Always,
Matty C
