Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Drew Wenzel on January 31, 2005:

Like many of you, I got to know Joe while at flight school at Fort Rucker. One of my earliest and best memories of him took place at a Halloween costume party I hosted with my roommates while we were waiting to start primary flight. I invited Joe the day of the party, and on short notice Joe produced one of the best Halloween costumes I'd ever seen. He showed up as a race car driver complete with a race suit, and inflatable car. That memory will forever be ingrained in my head for all of the laughs we all got out of it.

Joe ended up in my Basic Combat Skills class and my OBC class. There I learned that Joe worked as hard as he played, and that there was no better person to have on your team. It didn't matter if it were a game of ulitmate frisbee or if it were a group project, Joe's natural leadership abilities brought out the best in everyone.

I'll always remember Joe as a great friend, and as someone that always gave 100%. My sympathy goes to all of you and especially to Joe's family.
