Be Thou At Peace

Posted by PFC Kevin Bartley on June 17, 2007:

Joe was one of the best men I ever knew. Well composed, compassionate, and he had a love for his unit. If you asked Joe what he wanted to be doing he would have told you he wanted to be up in the air. He loved flying. Joe I will never forget being in Brownwood, TX on a field excercise and you came to talk to me about some personal problems I was having at the time. I looked up to you and you had a profound impact on me during those hard times. When others didn't believe in me, you instilled your faith in me and helped me to see that. As we finished talking a formation of apaches were hovering in the sunset. It was a sight no picture could have done justice. I remember you looking back to me and saying "thats why I do this." Even though I dont have a picture of it, it will always be painted in my mind. Buddy I will surely miss you. To his family, as you can see he has touched many lives and his sacrifice will be remembered by all who knew him. I prefer to think he is an angel in the skies now, watching over us.
