Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Ryan Long on May 7, 2008:

Drew was what all Army officers should aspire to be. We were in the same company at H2 my firstie year, I didn't like him much then. Years later when I served with him in Iraq in 7-10 Cav I realized why I resented him in school, he was so damned good. Drew was smart, organized, driven, and dedicated to his profession and his soldiers. Not only that, he could make you laugh and run you into the ground, he was everything. As an S1 Drew did more for my troop and my Soldiers than I thought possible. Drew realized that he could make a positive difference in the lives of those around him with hard work and was never reluctant to do more than his share. After we redeployed I missed going to the mess hall with Drew, he always lifted my spirits. I lost contact with Drew as I moved on and he took command, I'm sure he was just as exceptional a commander as he was a cadet and S1, I wish I could have seen it.
