James Matthew Gurbisz

West Point, 2002

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by M. Bowman on November 10, 2005:

Since hearing the sad news of the tragic loss of Captain Gurbisz, I have spoken to some who knew him and many who knew of him. I regret that I never had the opportunity to meet Jimmy myself. Admiration for this soldier, an outstanding example of the best of America's youth, is universal. As an athlete, scholar, loyal friend, charismatic leader, man of character, and patriot, James Gurbisz epitomized an ideal that few can hope to attain. Our entire community here in Monmouth County, New Jersey, mourns his passing and prays that his parents, his wife, his sister, and his friends may find some consolation in the contemplation of all that he achieved in his far too brief time with us. The world will be emptier without Jimmy, but many lives were made fuller because of him.
