Be Thou At Peace

Posted by COL(RET) Steve Dwyer on September 12, 2007:

Stacia,
My wife and I send our deepest condolences to you for your loss. I knew your husband while he was a cadet in my regiment. I was his Regimental Tac Officer. I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing on 7 Sep 07. Words could never replace such a wonderful young man but I had to at least try to convey my impressions of Drew.

His Company Tac Officer….then Maj John Richardson….thought the world of Drew and frequently would tell me about what a great officer he'd be someday. We used to challenge the "firsties" to an early morning game of basketball….one morning, C4 stepped up to the challenge and although Drew was not born to play basketball, he gave us old guys fits with his hustling play and incredible energy…..not sure who won, but I was left with an impression that Drew would someday lead his soldiers in a way that would make us all proud….and that's what he did. When I woke up this morning and received the e-mail telling of his death, I was stunned. Someone like Drew deserved to live forever…..I will always remember him and a little piece of all who knew him died along with him on 7 Sep 07.
I'm an old retired Colonel and I don't have much pull anymore…..but if there is ever anything I can do for you or your family please never hesitate to contact me.
Again my deepest condolences go out to you and your family. America has lost a great young man.
