Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Matt Mabe on September 7, 2022:

Duty. Honor. Country. Jackie's life exemplified these virtues, and her course on Earth ran far too short. Jackie was a model to all of us for how to live fully -- with faith, hope, joy, and grace. During the four years we spent together as cadets in D-3, Jackie was a beaming star, lighting the darkest periods of her classmates' trial at West Point. She was undeterred in her optimism, always quick with a helpful word of encouragement. When I ran into Jackie many years later, she was on the verge of early promotion to lieutenant colonel. Still, to my surprise, after her years of committed Army service, she had not lost that disarming smile and special twinkle in her eye that I and her fellow companymates had once known so well. It turns out that even her many accomplishments could not outshine her goodness. She was a dedicated soldier, a loving wife, and a friend to many. May Jackie's brilliant life and career forever stand as a reminder for how we should live ours. Be Thou At Peace, Jackie, my dear friend.
