CPT Mallard arrived at 1-7 CAV to serve as my armor PLT LDR..."LT." I can still freshly recall the day I was working on a tank and he approached to personally introduce himself. I also recall my last deployment to Iraq where I decided one day to observe the names of those who fell in service of our country at the FOB Warhorse memorial...and I came across CPT Mallards name. Although we, as an Army, are not blood brothers or sisters, a loss-no matter whether we served with an individual yesterday or years ago, is felt as a loss to ones own family. My heart was heavy that day and today as well. I will never forget the sacrifice made. Sir. |
