Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Erik Thorvilson on May 29, 2004:

I remember the first night Lenny arrived in Germany. We were all still staying on post because we had not found homes yet. He came over and we all went out for a fantastic meal. It was a great night. I remember thinking to myself how awesome it was going to be to have Lenny around in Germany for the next three years and was looking forward to spending many good times with him. We also made the journey over to Iraq on the same flight and spent the first week in Baghdad together. I remember before we all left for our different units, we made a pact to meet back up in Germany when we returned and then again we talked about it two months later when I saw him at Founders Day in downtown Baghdad. Sadly, we will not meet up again in this life, but I will never forget Leonard Cowherd. Lenny always had a smile on his face and was ready for a laugh. His good nature and enthusiasm for life radiated out and penetrated everyone he met. He truly enjoyed every minute of existence and treasured his friendships very deeply. He was an unbelievable man. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Lenny's family and friends. He touched many, many lives and will truly be missed. I will always remember the good times, Lenny.
