Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jim Calandro on May 28, 2011:

Bob suffered a terrible injury our senior year and ended up spending the rest of his life in assisted living. I did manage to stop by Council Bluffs and visit his family and then Bob at the hospital. He could not talk to me but when I left after two days he let a few tears flow so I knew he was aware of who I was.

I will always remember Bob as such a strong individual. He did not always obey the rules, he did get a few slugs, but kept his sense of humor. He was my room mate for all four years in C-1 something that is not supposed to happen but we managed it anyway. I think no one was fooled but they looked the other way. He was to be my best man in my wedding and I was so sorry he could not be there.

He would have made a good officer and would have thought outside the box and made things work. He has always been in my thoughts and prayers and it is good I can still see him in my mind at the peak of his health.
