Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tim Wyant on November 20, 2006:

As a four year member of Company A4, I distinctly remember several young men who, at one time or another, also called themselves Apaches. I have watched over the last few years as some of these men, Kevin Smith (2002), Derek Hines (2003), Leonard Cowherd (2003), and now Rhett Schiller (2003), have all been killed while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. When I first learned of Rhett's passing over the internet, I immediately thought back to my cow year, when he was known to me as CPL Schiller. I do not recall a great deal of him, as we were not that close, but I do recall him as being quiet, easygoing, and a pleasure to talk to when you could get him to open up. I wish his family the best as they mourn his tragic loss. I pray that time may help to heal the hole that you feel in your heart.

...As the long line stiffens and straightens,
With the thrill that your presence imparts...
