Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Bonnie Lee Bryant, Ph.D. on September 22, 2005:
I did not know your daughter, but read her obituary in the Washington Post, and was moved to send the following to you, which the Lord gave to me a short time ago, for me to give to my cousin who had lost her son, a wonderful Christian and a cadet at the Naval Academy, to a drunk driver. I hope it brings all who loved Laura hope and peace.
MISSING YOU (c)Bonnie Lee Bryant
If missing you could make a way, Then I'd be with you still today. If tears could bridge this empty space, Then surely I would see your face. If memory could call your name And bring you here, we'd be the same As every single other day Before cruel death took you away. But all these "ifs" fade like the dew; They cannot bring me there to you, Or you to me - oh, heart's desire! How can I bear love's funeral pyre? Yet in the silence I can hear The Spirit's voice upon my ear: "Trust in the One who long ago Loved even more than this, you know, And sent His Son to be the stair That some bright day will take you there. Look at the cross, God's perfect thought, Where life from death by love was bought. In Christ, who loves you, you will know The sweetest end of this life's woe." And so, dear heart, our joy must wait Until we meet at heaven's gate, Where once again I'll see your face When I have finished this life's race. No more apart, we will be one- One mind, one love, one in the Son. All sorrows gone, all longings ceased, Our hearts will find themselves released From grief and suffering, tears and pain, No more to break, no more to strain Against this barrier of death Where only one on earth has breath. Together there forever more With He who opened heaven's door, Our faith at last will become sight And present darkness become light. 'Til then I'll trust in life made new, And I'll be waiting, missing you.
