Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Rob Massey on May 8, 2015:

It is described to each cadet on day one an obstacle that will challenge all in new, but in very similar ways. The Cadet Experience is quite an experience, but truthfully, it is an experience that is unique to each cadet.. I know the experience was tough for Ben, but I truly believe he gained more from it than most of us. As many of us were "jumping through hoops," stressing over the next paper due or WPR to take, Ben was cracking jokes and making the most out of every opportunity he had to interact with his peers. When we were stressed, Ben was laughing. When we were exhausted, Ben was cracking jokes. I don't remember much from National Security Law, but I remember laughing every class. In fact it was my favorite course, not because it was particularly interesting, but because no matter what, I was going to have fun that day. For most of us, the Cadet Experience is something we simply have to get through, but Ben was far more interested in the journey than the destination. Nobody gained more from the experience than Ben, and nobody appreciates it more than Ben.

I miss you, Ben. Thanks for making me a part of your Cadet Experience, and thanks for teaching me to keep it light.

Be though at peace.
