Be Thou At Peace

Posted by 1LT Matthew Rowe on November 15, 2006:

Mike was my roommate during Beast. I relied on him quite often. I knew nothing about the army when I showed up at West Point. My other roommate had prior service, and Mike had grown up in the army. Mike taught me how to adjust. He mentored me on the basic tasks and knowledge that he took in with such confidence and enthusiasm. He loved the Army, and he loved his family. I just remember that those were the only two things he talked about. He had a great sense of humor, but he was also very disciplined and determined. He was always testing himself, trying to better himself. He inspired me to do the same. I remember how happy he was when he was able to run his 2-mile in under 12 minutes. He was determined to achieve what he set out to do. By becoming an officer, he endeavored to serve his country with honor, and in that he certainly excelled. Mike and I didn't see each other much after Beast, but we always stopped to chat when passing in the halls or in Central Area. I pray for those who knew him better than I, for their loss is great. God bless you Mike, and be thou at peace.
