Adam Paulson Snyder

West Point, 2004

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by CPT Quincy Manzey on December 9, 2007:

I met Adam at West Point as a plebe. I really don't know what to say. Words can not express my sorrow. Of all the grads we have lost I knew Adam the best. You never forget the guys that help you through plebe year; the ones that deliver laundry with you. You never forget the guys who go running out of the room with you singing the Army song so not to be stopped and hazed. His passing brings perspective of the war for me. I have been deployed twice but it is only now that I realize how real it is. When you lose someone that was that close, that tangible, you really start to understand what we are fighting for. No matter what the cause is, we are fighting to keep our comrades safe. To bring our friends home alive. I will miss Adam. Even though we haven't communicated since graduation, I will miss him. Life seems to pass by with no worries and no thought of what is going on with everyone else that you know or have known. The truth is most of the people that I spent four years of my life with are fighting for freedom in a foreign land. We must keep them in our prayers and not forget that they are in harms way. We must not forget those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. I will never forget Adam Snyder; as I knew him and as a war fighter that touched so many. I have so many feelings and thoughts that I can't express them all. My eyes are burning with tears and I realize that this is the first time that I will shed a tear for a fallen comrade. It took Adam, someone I knew well, for me to realize what every family and friend who has lost someone must feel. It really hurts to know I will never see him again. I will never see him at a reunion. I won't run into him on a post and remember all the crazy times we had at school just trying to make it. It took him passing to remember him and how close we were because of West Point. It really hurts and I just can't write anymore. Be thou at peace Adam. You will be missed.~Q
