Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Brandon Bodor on November 16, 2007:

Matt,
I am writing this from Baghdad at 2 am, which is fitting because some of the fondest memories I have with you were from Firstie year when Lev, Joe, Mike, Brad, you and I used to burn the midnight oil - usually wasting time - debating politics and life. I realize now that it was anything but a waste of time. I will cherish those moments forever.
You were one of the finest people I have ever met - you were a brilliant mind who somehow breezed through West Point's rigors with time to run track, earn your pilot's license when we were at Air Force, and never once stress out while the rest of us did. After my family met you one football weekend, they always asked about how that "impressive little guy from California who speaks Chinese" was doing. "I can't wait to see what that kid ends up doing with his life," they would always say.
I am still in shock that you are gone Matt; your impact on the many of us who knew you well was profound. Rest assured that your zest for life will live on in each of us, and anyone who stumbles across your story. In life and in death, you will always rank among the very best of the best. God bless you and your family.
Your friend,
Bodes
