Lynch -- Falls Church, VA; Longwood, FL; Ventura, CA Adam Christopher Lynch died on 6 February 2020 in San Jose, Costa Rica, following a brief illness, while on a temporary assignment working with the United States Embassy in Costa Rica. He was a resident of Florida, and during recent years lived in Luxembourg; Falls Church, VA; Doha, Qatar; Ventura and Sylmar, CA; Maputo, Mozambique; and Kaiserslautern, Germany. He loved the adventure and challenge of living and working all over the world. Adam has now taken up permanent residence with our Lord. To his West Point Classmates and friends: He has taken the final promotion and is now helping guard heaven's gates, holding a place for you. Adam, 38, and his family were currently residing in Falls Church, VA. He was born to Douglas and Corliss Lynch in Honolulu, Hawaii on 17 December 1981. He grew up in Tampa and Longwood, Florida, developing a love for surfing and scuba diving. He attended Lewis Elementary and Tampa Preparatory School. While living in Tampa he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. Following a move to Longwood, Florida, he attended Lake Brantley High School where he was co-captain of the Lake Brantley Crew team, a cheerleader and an AFROTC cadet, graduating with the class of 2000. Adam was proud of his appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. Attending Valley Forge Military Academy for a year in Wayne, PA, he and four AOG team mates moved on to West Point entering as Plebes in 2001. He survived his four years at West Point, including a summer at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom as the "little yank," and was honored to receive a marksmanship medal; he concluded that summer training in France, which he described as one of the most physically challenging of the summer assignments at the Academy. Graduating with his class in June 2005, known as the "Class of 9/11," he entered "The Long Gray Line," receiving a commission in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant with follow-on training as a Combat Engineer. A true patriot and gung-ho guy, he was deeply disappointed a year later when he was forced to once again become a civilian due to an injury. Of all he accomplished, he was proudest of his wife and children, followed by his graduation from The United States Military Academy. Adam also held a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida. Being born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and growing up in Florida did not automatically make Adam a great surfer. He worked at it and was on the waves whenever possible. At different times he could be found on a board in Hawaii, both the East and West Coasts of the United States, in the waters off the coasts of Mozambique and South Africa, and most recently, Central and South America. Board sports were one of his loves and snowboarding was his winter preference over skiing. He was blessed to have been on the major slopes in North America, Europe, and the only slope in Dubai. He shared this love, taking his family to the slopes and surf when he could. Adam was a fun-loving guy with a wry sense of humor. Recently, while on a trip to Ecuador, he arranged a weekend of sport diving, Adam style: he spent the weekend diving with the Ecuadorian Special Forces in combat gear, which typified Adam's definition of a fun dive trip. He was currently serving as a Construction Liaison Officer/Project Manager in Overseas Buildings Operations for the Department of State and loving this job. It combined his construction and contracts background and used his Civil Engineering Master's Degree. For the first time, he felt the knowledge from his Master's degree really was being utilized and he enjoyed supporting the Embassies in Central and South America. During his final trip he was in Panama and Costa Rica. Adam prioritized his life as family, church, surfing and job. He loved his wife Wendy and could always be found bragging about Travis and Mbali, while showing a picture or two. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the local Falls Church ward of the McLean Virginia Stake. He and Wendy recently helped teach a family financial planning course for church members. Adam was born 17 December 1981 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is survived by his immediate family, wife, Wendy Edith Bair Lynch, daughter of Jack and Elia Bair, of Sylmar, CA; his son Travis Delfino, born in Germany, and daughter Mbali Grace, born in South Africa. Travis was named after his paternal grandfather Travis L. Lynch (deceased) of Macon, Georgia, and his maternal grandfather, Delfino Gallegos Velasquez (deceased) of Zacatecas, Mexico. Mbali was named after her maternal grandmother Grace Carr (deceased) of Macon, GA. He is also survived by his mother, Corliss Carr Lynch (Macon, GA) of Longwood, FL, and father, Douglas Lynch (Macon, GA) of Port Orange, FL; Christine Lynch, stepmother, of Port Orange, Florida; Cynthia B. Lynch, paternal grandmother, of Macon, GA; Wanda Norman, aunt, of Clemmons, NC; Jeff Lynch, uncle, of Newnan, GA; and cousins Dayle Lightfoot, Crestwood, KY and Dawn Beavers, Stillwater, MN. A memorial service for Adam Lynch will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3 PM, 15 February 2020, 1600 N Inglewood St, Arlington, VA 22205. A Celebration of Life and reception will be held following the service. Please join the family to share memories, tell stories, and remember Adam so that when you leave the celebration, you do so with a smile. A Military Interment will be scheduled and announced at a later date. The family appreciates but requests you resist the urge to send flowers due to space constraints and delayed interment.
