Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Jason Hillman on October 16, 2007:
Tom - "Omas", You were my best friend, my brother. It's so hard to accept you're really gone. After I sent the messages to Les and Ed, someone from the Red Cross called to confirm your SSN, to make sure it was you, but I thought they were calling to tell me it had all been a mistake and that you were alive. I almost couldn't take it. Tom, you were the brother I never had. I feel so selfish in the way I am reacting. I feel like the world has stopped. I know Erika and your family are in so much more pain, I could not begin to compare. But I miss you. Les called me this morning and neither of us could hardly say a word.
Please keep his family in your prayers, and especially his fiancee, Erika. Funeral and burial arrangements have not been finalized yet. I talked to his mother yesterday and she told me that the funeral will be in San Antonio and he will be buried at West Point. If you would like to send a card or flowers expressing your condolences, his parent's address is:
Edmund and Candy Martin 26222 Sunny Meadow San Antonio, TX 78258 Friends/Classmates still in Iraq - If conditions permit, Tom's ceremony at FOB Falcon on the 18th at 1930 hrs. If anyone reads this and can make it, please take pictures and email them to me so I can send them to his parents and Erika.
Now I'm doing the only thing I know to do, and that's let the world know what a great friend Tom was to me to others.
If you would like to read about him and know just how great guy Tom really was, look at his online journal. www.tommym1080.com. Share it with your friends and let the whole world know how the Army and our nation lost one of it's best. I also created an online photo album with hundreds of his photos. Just email me if you would like permissions to view it. I will be posting stories and other pictures of Tom on my family's web page sometime in the future. Check back and read up on the latest stories www.thehillmantimes.blogspot.com
