Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Ben McDaniel on June 13, 2012:

Scottie,

No one was more excited for me to take command than you were. I will never forget that. As I prepare to take command, I keep thinking about who I would go to for advice and help as things start to pick up for me. Each time I think about it, I can only think of calling you, and it hurts all over again. After all we went through in 6-6, we were brothers in so many ways. Despite our different timelines, we suffered so many hardships together. Despite it all, you kept smiling and leading by example. A true American Soldier and Cav Trooper if I ever met one.

Our talks in your office at BAF will stick with me forever. You were between a rock and a hard place every day and just kept smiling and working hard, making the most of it and leading as only you could.

I hate that you are gone. I really wish you could be here with me on 15 JUN. I know you will be watching over me whenever you take a break from your old Troopers. Thank you for everything you did for me and for everyone else you met. You will never be forgotten, dude. See you on the Green.
