Be Thou At Peace

Posted by CDT Tyler Shekleton on July 29, 2018:

Dear Pace Family,

Just this morning myself and around 1,000 of my fellow cadets finished Cadet Field Training at West Point. We were a part of Task Force Pace. Our namesake was your CPT Scott Pace. 16 years ago he was in our shoes. I am sure he was eagerly awaiting some much needed leave and was filled with nervous excitement at the thought of being a Team Leader. However, I assume he never expected a summer of Buckner to be named in his honor.

None of the cadets in Task Force Pace ever met CPT Pace, but I know all of us look up to him. On the first day of Buckner, every trainee was given a card with CPT Pace's story and picture. We were required to carry this card on our bodies every single day. CPT Pace was with us through the fun times and the tough times.

He was a source of inspiration to all. He taught us the importance of courage, sacrifice, selfless service, and humility. We will never forget these lessons. More importantly, we will never forget CPT Pace. Part of him will forever be in our hearts. We can only hope that we will be half the leader that CPT Pace was.

Thank you for sharing his story.
