I recall Woody as well as I can recall anything from our Plebe Year...which is to say distantly. But I do remember that evening in the Spring of 1962. A group of us Plebes were in the "Sinks", the basement of the barracks not talking about anything in particular. Woody announced in his quiet, measured way that he was voluntarily resigning from the Corps. My own reaction was a quiet sadness. He had made a mature and reasoned choice. This was just not what he wanted to do with his life. I have always respected him for the maturity and courage he brought to that decision. But the sadness remains. |
