Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Will Lightfoot on November 25, 2010:

I've been thinking of you old friend, always have. I suppose I've been looking for a place like this for quite a long time to express my feelings and loss. I remember vividly our trips off to our track meets sr. year, specifically the one down to Cheriho. Neither of us wanted to take the bus so I volunteered to drive the old jeep on down to south county. I believe it was just about the last meet of the year because the sun was blazing and you were trying to kick your smoking habit the entire ride down, getting ready for West Point, by chewing and spitting into an old Poland springs bottle, haha. Hey, little steps right? I really dont remember much of the meet to be honest, im sure you kicked ass, but I do remember the ride down, just you and me, getting a bit lost and finally finding our way, showing up just in time for the events. I remember Dave was having some party at his house to celebrate the end of the season, of which you invited me to, and was the first party I had ever been invited to, but stupid me, without sunblock, got burned pretty bad that day, and I never made it to the party. This was always a regret, and quite amplified by your passing. Hey, you would be thrilled to know Devine is now a Seal, I know you two were buddies as kids. After highschool when I would go out running and start pushing myself I would think, come on will, this is nothing, keep going, you think this is tough, just think about what Greg has to deal with. You were, and still are an inspiration my old friend, missed but not forgotten, never will be forgotten.
