Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SSG(R) Yvette Bowshier on May 29, 2012:

Hey LT: Yesterday was Memorial Day 2012. I sat there somber for most of my day trying to figure it all out. There are still and always will be unanswered questions because it just all seems so wrong.

I want to tell you what I thought about you and I am sure that it will go full circle. When you arrived at 6/101 I just knew you were going to be "something" else. You had this light-hearted spirit, you took in your surroundings, engaged in conversation with all ranks, but most importantly you wanted to make a difference.

Remember how I told you about Major Bonnichson and his "strict" demeanor. I am sorry I lied to you but it was probably the funniest thing I ever saw when you took very careful instruction on reporting to him. The MAJ was one of the kindest people I knew, cared about Soldiers, and was just a great person... you were in the right place at 6/101. I am sorry I used you to make others laugh but you were a good sport.

SPC Sem... yeah that was a treat, eh? I never had the opportunity to thank you for being my side kick with that debacle. I appreciate how you supported me and I could not have picked a better Platoon Leader if I chose 'em myself.

What about that one Saturday that you came over to my house and between Odie, you and me... well we had one heck of a party schemed up for that "one kid"... thank you so much for your time and your funding. You rock.

This is my most important issue of the day... My nephew, Aaron Bowshier has been accepted to West Point and leaves for CBT on 1 July 2012. I don't know if you hear some of my prayers but, Sir, I hope that you can be a guardian angel for him and keep a close eye out on him... He is there partly because of you. You were such a wonderful role model to him when he came to spend the summer with me. I thank you for teaching him the finer side of an enlistment ~ he wants to be like you "were".

I missed your professionalism, caring leadership, and knowledge. You are the first officer from West Point that I ever got to know up close and personal and TODAY I CAN SAY HOW PROUD I AM TO HAVE KNOWN YOU SIR.

Respectfully,
SSG (R) Yve Bowshier
