Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Michael J. Ireland on March 15, 2013:

To the Parents, Family, and Friends of CPT PK:

Words are all I have, but they are infinitely unsatisfactory.

This man's accomplishments, even in his abbreviated life, tower over those of most men who die of old age. And there is a quality too, a warmth and humanity, that is genuine and rare. How can such a man be taken from us? Why?

I am angry, and sick to my stomach, and dizzy with loss, and I am nobody. I cannot fathom your loss, I can only imagine. My life was not touched directly by CPT PK, but he is every man's son, he is any man's friend, he is everyone's brother. Would that I could take his place, I who have lived a long life and still not done so much.

I cannot force the platitudes out of my fingers. I want to howl in pain, but only I would hear it, and no good would come of it. I have no answers, only questions and frustration.

I can only pray for him and you, and I will fervently. God rest his soul and peace be with you all.
