Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Shelley & David Eisenlohr, '07 Parents on March 10, 2009:
Your classmate, our son Michael, admired you greatly, Dan. Your loss has really rattled him. How could this happen to Dan Hyde, of all people? I think he must have been a charter member of the "Dan Hyde for First Captain" movement!
We met only briefly, at Ring Weekend, and we won't soon forget your smile, your warmth, and hearing from Michael how you were held in such high esteem by all who knew you.
Every time I learn of the loss of a soldier, especially a West Pointer, I hear in my head the haunting words of of "The Mansions of the Lord":
"To fallen soldiers let us sing Where no rockets fly nor bullets wing Our broken brothers let us bring To the Mansions of the Lord
"No more bleeding, no more fight No prayers pleading through the night Just divine embrace, eternal light In the Mansions of the Lord
"Where no mothers cry and no children weep We will stand and guard, though the angels sleep All through the ages, safely keep The Mansions of the Lord"
We know you are standing watch, sir. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. You made a difference.
