Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Adam Nordin on March 10, 2009:

Dan - From West Point to NorCal to Ranger Graduation, we have trailed each other far and wide. My respect for you, the amazingly talented and most genuine person there ever was, is only a humble snapshot of your true character. I regarded you not only as a friend but as a role model, always smiling and never missing a beat.

You know Dan, when I heard the news the first thing that came to my mind is that these things always happen to the good guys, the best people that we know and the people who we never expect. But, I am beginning to understand that there is a reason for everything, and that these things can only happen to the best of us because your journey in life is not over. I know it's not because you will be there with every step that we take, watching over us, shining a light when we can't see and making sure we don't make a single mistake when our families, friends, soldiers, and country need us most. And that, Dan, is a burden and a responsibility that only the best of us can handle, which is why you have been chosen to carry such weight. You are, and always will be, the best of us, Dan.

It is with deep regret that I thank you for your sacrifice, brother. As you fall into the ranks of fallen heroes, remember that your legacy lives on with every beat of our hearts.

We will meet again, my friend. Until then, another one of us will step forward to cover down in your absence in hopes that he can merely be half the man as you.

-Adam
