Dear Hyde Family, As Dan's commanding general in Iraq and former commandant of cadets his firsty year, I was devastated when first hearing of what happened the afternoon of 7 March 2009 here in Samarra Iraq. I know how empty are any words that would attempt to comfort you from this grief that must be so overwhelming. History will gloriously record Dan's service and sacrifice. He had a profound impact on his Soldiers and every person he came in contact with. He loved them and they knew it. They would do anything for him. His memory will remain a part of their lives forever. I also hope you'll find some comfort in knowing that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and all of the Class of 2007 during these trying times. We pray that God may comfort you as only He can, and leave you Dan's cherished memory and the solemn pride of his incredible service and sacrifice to our Nation. MG Bob and Shelly Caslen |
