Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Adam Nordin on May 28, 2015:

Dan,

I am a little late this year in writing to you for Memorial Day- I was returning from yet another deployment to Afghanistan. Six deployments for me alone, and we are still committing our forces to the Middle East.

I am currently stationed at JBLM as part of the Ranger Regiment, an organization that you would be better suited than me. Chris Merz is here with me, and we shared some stories during this last trip - he was telling me that you both were in the same company on that fateful day.

There has been much discussion on social media about Americans not understanding the distinction between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day, and that many veterans are asking to not be thanked on this American Day of Our Heroes.

Dan, I want to thank you for your service, for your memory, and for your friendship. Hardly a day passes without thinking of you, and your memory will live as long as my lungs have breath and my heart gives a pulse.

I rest easy each night knowing that there are tough men like you that are watching over us, shedding a light when we cannot see, and filling our lungs with the strength to pick ourselves up and overcome any obstacle.

Rest well, Brother. I look forward to seeing you again.

-Adam
