Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Sarah Komm on March 18, 2013:

Sara,
You and I spent a lot of time together at school; first during Buckner in the same company, and roommates in both Yuk and Firstie year. We did not start off on the right foot. We had some pretty rough times, but what I remember more, and why it is so hard for me to think about your passing now, is that we overcame our differences and grew closer our Firstie year. I learned what a great spirit you had, how contagious your laugh was, and what an awesome fighter you were. Any challenge that came your way, you went for it, no fear, no regrets. I really admired you and had such great respect for you and I knew you would do well in the Army. Something that I will always remember about you is how much you supported Andrew and me when we decided to get married. I remember walking in to our room after Andrew and I decided we were getting married, and while everyone else was like "um, you sure about that?" you were so excited. I mean, you were surprised (the typical Sara gasp and open mouth kind of surprise where you would then demand "you are going to sit and tell me all about this!"), but while most people were trying to convince Andrew and me that we were not thinking straight, you were genuinely happy for us and I really appreciated your support. I am reminded of you all the time actually, and I do not think you ever realized I would be, but I am. You used to make fun of me for using a big comforter to sleep with, even when it was hot as all get-out, and then, for my wedding, you got me a big, blue, down comforter. It is still on my bed today (yes, no one can deny you had great taste in all things retail!), and while it has saddened me a lot looking at it lately, it also reminds me of what a great sense of humor you had, and how generous, kind, and thoughtful you were. And so I say to you Sara, well done, you lived an amazing life, and you chose to make the most of it; be thou at peace.

To Sara's husband and family; I am so very sorry for your loss. I am sure there are memories of her that you will cherish forever; but the fact that there are so many people who have great memories of her, so many lives she has touched, I can only hope that it brings you some peace to know that she was loved and respected by so many people.
