Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jon Stewart on August 7, 2013:

Sara and my youngest son, Blake, were friends at Oklahoma Middle School in Eldersburg, Md. Our family moved to Finksburg, Md., and Blake attended Westminster High. My oldest three were Liberty graduates, my youngest daughter, Amanda, was in Kelly's class.

I believe Sara broke her ankle in 6th grade, and while she was recuperating she asked Blake if she could borrow "Top Gun." Sara returned the tape in two days, far better than many adults who borrow things.

Sara invited Blake to be her Homecoming date either Freshman or Sophomore year. I drove Blake to the football game and had a nice talk with Sara, Blake and their friends.

She laughed at my corny jokes and smiled often. The last thing she said to me, out of the blue, was "I Love You." Those are the last words she ever said to me and I will always remember them.

I have often thought over the years that she would have made a great wife for Blake and a wonderful daughter-in-law. Her husband was the lucky winner -- for far too short a time.

Her combination of intelligence, work ethic, bravery and a thoughtful, caring personality is matched by few.

I knew Sara's Mom and Dad and Kelly just a little, but it was evident that Sarah came from a loving, caring home.

I pray that Sara's family can persevere after this great loss, but they should be proud of all that Sara accomplished because they were a big reason why.

Sincerely,

Jon Stewart
