Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Stephane Crayne on September 16, 2009:

To Tyler, his friends and familly,

I knew Tyler when I lived in Morocco and Studied at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane. He stood out as of the first days, making people laugh, smile, just being a generally really positive persona. He had an aura, and charisma that few could aspire to.

I knew him for the span of that semester, not too long in the end, but time doesn't define friendship, nor how much you know someone. We understood each other and genuinely communicated and shared. Today I can say that I try to be a better person every day thanks to him. His sense of honor, duty, responsibility and respect (for everything he encountered) are an example to be followed.

How does someone rise to excellence as he has? Education, upbringing, entourage, life experiences? Maybe a mix of all, or perhaps he had it in him, a human and moral fiber above and beyond the rest. He was the best.

Enrolling in the French Military Academy to be an officer, we joked about meeting on duty one day... I know that day will never come, but I will forever cherish and hold close what I learned from him, carry on his legacy, his mission in life...

To Meg, and Lona, my sincerest sympathies and condolences for your loss, words cannot express the depth of sadness, let faith and love drive you through these dark times.

To a great man, officer and friend, goodbye Tyler Parten, and God Speed, I hope to meet again.
