Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Amy Dittoe on September 22, 2009:

There are certain people who make this world a better and more beautiful place, just by being in it. Tyler Parten was one of them.

Tyler was not only a hero in the eyes of this nation, but a hero in the eyes of his friends and family. Every single day that I was lucky enough to spend with him, Tyler acted as a natural protector. But what set him apart from everyone else was his incredible perspective on life and his ability to comfort and cheer those around him, regardless of any personal turmoil he was experiencing.

Throughout the last several days, I've been alternately struck with oppressive, overwhelming grief and, curiously, fits of laughter at my memories with Tyler. But somehow, during those moments, I can tell he's laughing with me. And sometimes AT me, as he frequently did in life.

I will miss you so much Tyler. But I will keep trying to smile, because that's what you would have wanted.
