Be Thou At Peace

Posted by ann johansmeyer on April 11, 2010:

Please accept the condolences of the Johansmeyer-Gutierrez family on your terrible loss. Your son sounded like a wonderful young man, the very best.

As small comfort, I send you a quote from the author Carlos Fuentes, whose only two children died. He was asked, "How do you get up in the morning after that kind of loss?" His answer: "You go on. You go on. You bring the person you love inside you. That is how you cope. You make him or her live within you. The whole experience I had with my children is in me. It is nowhere I can see. i can see a photograph, I can feel sad, i can read a poem, but the experience of having them within myself is what matters."

We thank Robert for his supreme sacrifice and hope that in time, your pride in such a fine son and your happy memories of his life will give you some much deserved solace.

Sincerely yours,

Ann Johansmeyer (mother, Soren Gutierrez, '03)
