Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Aubrey McCary on May 2, 2010:

Sal, I'll always remember meeting you your first year at West Point, not just another freshman in our company but a friend of Jon's from Tae Kwon Do. You and Jon had so much in common; short, soft-spoken guys from New Jersey who had amazing fighting skills. They even called you Mini-Jon!

I'm glad we got to see you on our last visit up to West Point. I know it meant a lot to Jon, sitting and talking with you like that. You were a good friend to everyone, and I jokingly thought that Jon kept coming back to West Point not just to see me but to spend time with his buddy Sal.

We're still shocked that you're gone... You really were one of those people no one could say anything negative about. It seems like they do take the best ones. You were always so gracious and kind, and I remember most how you always smiled and said thank you to people, even for the littlest things. Now we thank you for your service, your sacrifice, but most of all for being a true friend and genuinely good man.

Jon and I will never forget those years we had with you.
