Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Nathan Hanagami on May 5, 2010:
I knew Sal through the Collegiate Taekwondo league. Though he was a great competitor, what I will remember most about him was his attitude. He always had a positivity about him that made you happy to see him. I remember when he was recovering from his knee injury he always seemed up beat and optimistic even though I've seen lesser injuries break the spirits of other athletes. All through his career in the league he seemed both humble in victory and gracious in defeat. I saw Sal just a few weeks ago at the UPenn tournament when he was cheering on the West Point team while home on leave. I talked to him briefly and he told me he was home for a bit and about to go back out to Afghanistan. I wished him luck and just made normal small talk. Looking back at it I wish I had the opportunity to tell him that his positive attitude and upbeat demeanor was always impressive to me. I'll remember Sal as an excellent Taekwondoist, but more importantly as a truly good man.
