Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Barry Willey, COL (ret.), US Army on July 17, 2010:

Chris was a dear Christian brother and friend. He participated in a semester long discipleship program I led with several of his classmates his junior year at USMA. After the session on establishing a solid prayer life and the need to begin an evangelism prayer list (with people's names on it whom they know who don't know Christ as Lord and Savior) The next day, Chris sent this email to all of us in the group. "Last night, one of the people on my evangelism prayer list came to know Christ as his savior. I've been meeting with him regularly this semester to talk about some issues that he has been having and have some spiritual discussions. Last night we started reading the Bible together for the first time. It took us an hour and a half to get through John 1 because he was asking so many questions. By the end, he said that he knows that he needs Christ in his life to forgive him from his sins and to fill a hole inside him that he knows is there. He looked at me and asked, "what if Christ came back tomorrow?" "Would I be saved?" Can you believe it! Then he asked me how he can be saved, and a short while later he was praying out loud for the first time in a long while, passionately asking God to forgive him and come into his heart. What a testament to the power of God's Word. "My Word will not return void, but will accomplish the purpose for which I sent it." It definitely is living and active, and it pierced my friend's soul to the joint and marrow last night."

I share this with you all who knew and loved Chris to demonstrate that Chris's legacy is alive and living on in the many who were touched for eternity by him. This young man was only one of so many Chris impacted for Christ. We will miss him so very much, but know he is with Jesus now. Praise God for His faithfulness and sovereignty in our lives.

Thank you, Chris, for making an eternal difference in others.
