Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Linda Sedlak on December 16, 2011:

My son Justin Sedlak, Jr.,class of '08, called to tell me of this tragedy. I told him that he must have his facts wrong, that this could not be true, and he told me that she really was lost to us all.

My heart is truly broken.

My love for this young lady, and her family, started when I read a posting from Annie's mother on the Plebe Forum asking for a place to stay during Plebe Parent Weekend. After no offers of shelter, nor any place to stay had been offered, I contacted the mother, and told her if she did not mind sharing a double bed room with my son's date, and having to share the one bathroom between the two rooms with 5 people that she was welcome to join us.

Very Bravely, she accepted our offer, and joined us.

Meeting Anne for the first time had an impact on the whole family. Annie, as I called her, was a tiny bundle of energy and joy that far exceeded her height and her weight.

She was truly a precious young woman, full of joy about being a West Pointer, and having her mother there at West Point to see all of the sites and attend all of the occasions during that 4 day weekend meant the world to Annie, and to her mother, and to us as Annie became a member of our hearts.

Annie never lost her joy, her huge beautiful smile, nor her sparkle during the grueling 4 years that I knew her at West Point. Every time I saw her she brought happiness and smiles to those that she was around, and I counted each visit and chance encounters with Annie as the gifts that they were for me and my hubby.

If Annie's parents should see this Eulogy, please feel free to contact me. I have tried to locate Annie's family, but have been unsuccessful.

The world is a lesser place with this young woman's loss.
