Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Roderic O'Connor Class '09 on June 30, 2011:

My condolences to the Pulliam and Del Castillo Family. I knew them as an inseperable pair. Anyone who knew them knew that they were going to get married. I am currently south of Kunar in Eastern Afghanistan and we hear every day what a fight they have up there. It was heart-wrenching to hear the news coming off mission that Del had passed. The news circulated before any reports could be made, he was as fierce a friend and leader as he was on the Rugby Scrum and I'm sure on the battlefield. Knowing that he died clutching his radio and passing on orders, orders to save his men, overflows my heart with pride. He is the shining example of Selfless service, duty and honor.

As I sit here fighting and carrying on with his memory, as our friends back home toast in celebration of his life, I know he did not die in vain. All over the internet people are posting it:

"Del was killed while calling in air support on the enemy when his platoon was attacked from multiple positions. Even after being shot, he refused to give up the radio in order to keep his men alive. He died with the mike in hand. Del was the definition of a Warrior. May we never forget him. Rest easy Brother. Rangers Lead the Way"

To his family and to Katie, you are always in our prayers and he will never be forgotten.

Well Don, Be thou at peace...
