Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dylan Potter on August 27, 2011:

News like this never comes easy especially regarding such a close friend and comrade as Tim was. Tim and I were Platoon leaders together in D/2-87 IN and then when I moved over to B/2-87 IN as a PL, Tim came over to Blackhawk CO. as the XO. Tim and I were together as we conducted our first combat patrols, slowly learning the terrain when we first got in country. 3 Days before Tim passed away, he came on patrol with my platoon to clear some trees around our company strong point. You could tell how pumped Tim was to be going outside the wire, carrying a chain saw and smiling the whole time. I can't help but smile when I think about that patrol because Tim couldn't get the chainsaw to work properly so he was literally jumping on trees to knock them over...out in sector. I kept cracking up and saying, "Tim, you are gonna knock over a tree on one of my soldiers," and he would respond with, "Just let me cut one more down," or "I hate these trees!" It was just one of those funny moments that i will think about when all this is said and done. rarely are the qualities of humility, compassion, courage, and steadfastness combined so perfectly, but I guess for Tim, it just came naturally. Tim you will be missed brother everyday. RLTW.
